Pokémon Sword and Shield: What Do We Know?

It’s at times like this I really get salty about not having a Switch.

In the latest Nintendo Direct, they announced two new Pokémon games coming to the Switch, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield as well as introducing us to the new region and starters.

Right off the bat, this set of starters are adorable! I tend to pick either the fire or water starter and this time around I can’t decide which one I like more, the fire type Scorbunny or the water type Sobble. That being said Grookey is seriously cute too.

The new region Galar looks like it’s based on the United Kingdom. In fact, it almost looks like the UK flipped upside down. In the trailer, you can see a bunch of famous landmarks from England. Nothing new since Pokémon has taken inspiration from real-world locations countless times, even in the movies.

As a Scot, I got so excited about the notion of my Homeland being a setting for the game I freaked out. I know that chances are the towns and cities are more likely to be based on Edinburgh than my city of Glasgow but I’m alright with that.

I wonder if there will be any Pokémon based off Scottish myths. Maybe even a Haggis Pokémon? Oh, or Nessie being a Legendary Pokémon! That would be amazing.

Side note, I love all the memes Nintendo Direct has inspired. Please keep them coming, they have brightened my day!

They have also announced that the games will be released later this year so I have some time to try and save up enough for a Switch before then. I honestly doubt it since I am a broke student but hey, worth a shot at least.

Are you excited for Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield? If so which starter are you going with? Let me know!
