2023 New Year’s Resolutions

Happy New Year, lads!

Here is to another year on this weird planet that we call home. Another rotation around the sun is finished and man did it feel like a long one. Still not as bad as 2020, yet not exactly worthy of being called a good year.

As is tradition, it is time to make some New Year’s Resolutions. I have a bit of a complicated relationship with resolutions because I end up only achieving about half of them. However, that isn’t going to stop me from trying my best.

Of course, my first resolution is the obligatory weight loss goal. Earlier this year, I was able to lose about a stone. However, I have since gained most of it back. As things started to turn downhill emotionally, I slipped back into my old bad habit of eating to fill the void. I have lost weight several times before so I know I can do it, it’s keeping it off that is my Achilles’ heel. I will try and cut back on worse comfort foods and keep temptation away from my greedy hands.

On a more realistic note, I aim to try and build up healthy habits. Not just saying no to foods I know I shouldn’t touch, but developing a sleep schedule, regular exercise and keeping my space clean and organised. I’m going to try going to bed earlier than 2 in the morning and doing little cleaning often, instead of leaving all of it until the last minute.

I have taken up a new challenge this year, crocheting a temperature blanket. I have already set up a notebook to keep track of the highs for each day, so I can refer to it if I end up crocheting a bunch in one go. This seems a touch daunting to me, yet I feel up to the challenge. It’s the same pattern I use for making scarves, so I should be fine. Did I overthink the colour pallet? Of course, I did! I’m excited to see how it turns out.

Reading challenges, PopSugar and 70 books.

Once again, I am setting myself a target to read 70 books. It was a fun challenge last year, so I thought I would do it again. I ended the year reading about 68, and I aim to beat that this year. I’m also taking part in this year’s PopSugar Reading Challenge.

The last time I jumped into the PopSugar challenge, I went into it blind. Half of the challenge was to find books to fit the prompts, let alone read them. Since the 2023 list was published back in December I started planning out what books to read and when. This precaution should make it a lot more manageable.

What about you? What are your goals for the new year? Please let me know!

  1. Those are some really good goals! Since I managed to read 75 books last year, I’ve set myself the goal of reading 80 books this year. Itisn’t as tough as it seems, as I want to re-read the Fairy Tail manga and the Sword Art Online light novels.
