Confessions of a Dice Goblin

Yeah, this post has been a long time coming.

The first step in sorting a problem is admitting there is one. With that in mind, my name is Megan and I am a Dice Goblin.

Basically, I can’t stop buying D&D dice.

Now, that might not sound like a real problem, but I assure you it is. Each set has seven dice and I tend to buy really pretty ones. Rule of thumb, the prettier it is, the pricier.

I tend to spend around £10 or so per set, which isn’t too bad compared to the ones made out of gemstones or collectors editions. Still, it all adds up.

How bad is it? Well, at last count I have 43 sets of dice, 301 total. I have to keep buying dice bags as they are filling up. Currently, I keep most of them them in a smallish chest with my D20s, D100s and D10s in a separate bag since they are the ones I use the most while DMing.

So, you are probably wondering why I horde plastic maths rocks. Frankly, I am not quite sure myself.

I know part of it is my addictive personality. Once I get into something, I need to get as much of it as possible. It’s the same issue I have with books, tea and candles.

No, really. A corner of my room is nothing but a stack of different kinds of tea. Some are even nerd tea. Yes, that is a thing. Let’s not get started in my candle collection.

I also just love the feeling of holding a bunch of dice. Better still, getting to roll a bunch of them at once, especially if you are rolling for damage. It is the closest you will ever feel like being a god.

When I see my growing horde, I can’t help but smile. I still don’t think this is a major issue, or at the very least it isn’t at the moment. My party would disagree with that statement. Namely Thomas. Not that they are gonna stop me.

At the moment, I can still have all my dice near me, but I’m going to have to pick out a few sets to take with me to the pub when we start playing face to face again. Although that still won’t be for quite some time.

No matter what anyone says, there is no such thing as too many dice. I will fight you on that.

  1. I wouldn’t fight you on having too many dice. Just as long as you don’t fight me on having too many bald eagles. I like pictures of them and have them posted on the walls of my bedroom and office. I think we all have something we obsession with in life. To other people what we collect may seem weird and over the top, but they don’t have the same feelings as the person that collects them. The only problem is that they do cost money 😦 But if I ever need to buy a gift, I know exactly what to get you now 🙂
