Steam Powered: Kind Words

A few kind words can go a long way, especially now.

Kind Words (lo fi chill beats to write to) is the latest game from Popcannibal. In this game, you write letters to strangers and they write letters to you.

You are only identified by your first initial so it is anonymous. To send letters all you have to do is respond to a request, or you can post a request yourself, asking for advice or support and sweetheart strangers will respond.

There are also several stickers to collect as well as new tracks. Every day a new piece of music is available thanks to the letter delivering deer, Ella.

This is the most wholesome game and community I have ever had the joy to experience. Everyone is trying to support strangers the best they can. The game developers even include several sources for mental health resources, some even made with gamers in mind.

On top of that the lofi music, as cheesy as this will sound, is just as it says in the title. They are relaxing to listen to as you give and receive kind words from others. I love lofi so seeing a game incorporate it in such a calming way is excellent. The tunes are also on Spotify, needless to say, I have added them to my library.

This game lets players get any worries off their chest in a safe and understanding environment. It’s hard to reach out for help, more so than ever with the current climate.

For me, I am still struggling with asking for help. I know that it is the right thing to do, but I hate even the thought of being a nuisance to someone else, namely loved ones. I tend to bottle things up and only ask for help when the hole I have dug myself into is too deep to climb out of alone.

So being able to vent to strangers who will never meet me truly helps. I have gotten wise advice and encouraging sentiments from those who respond to my requests. I also feel great sending my support in return. It’s nice to feel helpful, after all.

I am sure that in time, Kind Words will become a wonderful mental health resource in its own right. The game is only £3.99 and I think it’s worth it. I highly recommend it. The game is still getting new content. In fact, in two days there will be a live broadcast discussing the upcoming update.

Consider picking up this adorable experience, I hope it helps you as much as it has already helped me.
