From their family to yours

The first teaser for the latest The Addams Family film was released and so far it looks rather promising.

Like a lot of folks, I grew up watching The Addams Family movies on repeat. I also loved the 60s TV show and cartoons. So when I first heard about the upcoming animated movie I was both excited and put off.

I’m getting a bit fed up of the constant reboots of movies from my childhood (looking at you, Disney!) but I still kept a bit of hope since I like the style they went with that pays homage to the original designs from the Charles Addams comics. On top of that when I read about the cast I kept thinking “Yeah, I can see that” as they have got a talented cast.

I do try to keep myself in check with teasers since I have been burned before by great looking ones only for the finished product to suck but I can’t help but smile as I rewatch this one over and over again.

I can’t help it! That snap never fails to bring a grin to my face!

So far this looks like it is going to be a fun movie and now I am already hyped for Halloween. Well, I was anyway since it is my favourite holiday but now I have another reason to look forward to it.

Right off the bat, it looks like we will get to see a younger Morticia and Gomez. Maybe we will even get to see how they met and fell in love. I kind of hope so since while it has been talked about in other adaptations as far as I remember the only time we got to see them before getting married was in the 60s show.

I’m glad to see that they are taking full advantage of this being an animated movie. I was a little nervous that it would just be like the live action movies but it looks like they are going to get creative with the medium from the bug bit and the tree. Keen to see what they come up with.

Charlize Theron is no stranger to voice acting an so far I really like her take on Morticia. Chloë Grace Moretz’s Wednesday is really good too,  but I am a bit disappointed that we didn’t get any clips of Grandma who is voiced by the legend that is Bette Midler.

Side note, if you haven’t seen First Wives Club do yourself a massive favour and watch it. It is an underrated masterpiece!

All in all, I am really excited about The Addams Family. The teaser is a good start but there are still several unanswered questions, such as what is the story going to be? Time will tell but I am keen to see what they have in store for this beloved family.

  1. Nice. I grew up watching the original “The Addams Family” on the local ABC broadcast affiliate.

It was such a success that CBS came out with its own spooky television family, “The Munsters”.

There was also a late afternoon supernatural Gothic soap opera called “Dark Shadows”. I could only watch it over summer break because I usually got home from school too late to catch it. A few years back they resurrected it for a movie, with Johnny Depp as Barnabus Collins.

It is a little bit sad. I got more joy out of watching those simply produced shows on a low-res 19-inch CRT monitor in black and white than I do most high production value HD programs on a 48-inch flat screen.
