While I am still trying to catch up with last years games, I am keen to see what’s coming out this year. From what I have seen so far it looks like 2019 is going to be an interesting year for gaming. There are quite a few games I can’t wait to play which made picking my top five rather tricky but I somehow managed.
Without further ado, in no particular order, here are my picks of the Top Five upcoming games of 2019.
I wrote about PsychoNauts back in 2016 and while at the time I was unsure about the sequel in the works now I am fully on board.
I was pretty late to the game (pun intended) since it came out 13 years ago and I only got around to playing it three years ago so I don’t mind waiting a bit longer for the sequel but I suspect some fans want it sooner than later, which is more than understandable.
The Sinking City
As someone who loves mystery and Lovecraft, a game in which you play as a Boston detective who is investigating the disturbing Supernatural City of Oakmont set in an open world inspired by the universe of H.P. Lovecraft?
Sounds like it was handcrafted for me!
I can’t wait to play it. I love the style they are going for and the fact you need to keep an eye and manage your mental health over the course of the game as you are pulled into a nightmarish hellscape of madness.
Based on the books by Dmitry Glukhovsky (which I am planning to read this year) and the third in the Metro game series, the game follows Artyom with the Spartan Rangers on his mission to find a new home in the far east.
I will admit that I don’t know much about the games but having seen the trailers and hearing about the books certainly got my attention and I plan to grab a copy of Metro 2033 Redux on Payday to catch up with the series before playing Metro Exodus.
Journey to the Savage Planet
As much as I like darker toned games, every now and then you need to play something a bit more lighthearted, and I think I have found 2019’s answer to that.
Journey to the Savage Planet is an upbeat first-person adventure game in which you play as an employee of the “4th Best Interstellar Exploration Company” Kindred Aerospace. You are packed off to an alien world with weird creatures and no low supplies. Your job is to ensure if the planet you are on is safe for human habitation.
This game looks seriously cute and I am keen to explore that colourful world.
We are used to using items in games that boost or decrease stats in games but creating and changing a mutant is something I haven’t heard of before.
Biomutant not only allows you to alter your character through the game but create your own weapons and you get a little scrap-toy sidekick, Automaton. The game is open world and is home to some rather nasty creatures that you must defeat if you want to live.
The New World is being terrorised by a plague and the Tree-of-Life doesn’t have much time left. You must either unite the tribes or destroy them, but whatever choice you make will have an impact in the world, you might even bring an end to it.
So those are the games I’m looking forward to playing this year. What games are you keep to get your hands on? Let me know!
