With 2018 coming to a close in a matter of days, I want to have a look at the best of this rollercoaster of a year.
Before I begin, I want to remind you that the following is merely my opinion. Not to mention being broke this year this means I have missed out on some of the best parts of the year, looking at you Red Dead Redemption 2.
So if you have another title in mind than my picks I either didn’t care for it as much as you or I simply haven’t gotten around to it.
Best Game of 2018: Far Cry 5
I think this is the third time I have talked about this game, but I love this game so much that I can’t help but gush about it every chance I get.
Far Cry 5 is fun, simple as that. I like the story and characters, even the villains are somewhat charming in their own way.
I would go on but again, I have ranted about Far Cry 5 several times so I would just be repeating myself. If you want more of my thoughts on the game, here you go.
Honourable Mentions: Red Dead Redemption 2, Shadow of the Colossus Remastered
I started the first draft of this ramble a few days before Christmas and my plan was to use whatever Christmas money I would get to get Red Dead Redemption 2. Turns out I didn’t need to since I got given not only Red Dead Redemption 2, Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Spider-Man.
Needless to say, I spend most of Boxing Day playing Red Dead Redemption 2 and dabbling in the online game every now and then. From what I have played so far I really like it.
Side note, it has been tricky to avoid spoilers for since even my college lecturer played it before I could!
Shadow of the Colossus is a great game as well. This was my first time playing it and I can see now why it has been called a classic.
Best Indie Game of 2018: Dead Cells
My best friend Shiloh and I have a tradition of giving each other Christmas gifs in the first week of December. Started back in High School and we just kept doing it.
Part of her gift to me this year was Dead Cells.
Dead Cells is a lot of fun but also infuriating at points. However, unlike Bloodborne that just angered me so much that I stopped playing and never touched it again, I keep coming back to Dead Cells.
Even when you die you still make progress. You are sent to the beginning again but by spending souls you collect you upgrade each time.
Honourable Mention: My Time At Portia
This game is so cute!
This early access game already has a bunch of content right out of the gate, it’s impressive.
The gameplay is simple enough but fun and the world is populated with loveable characters. For more of my thoughts about this game, click here!
Best Anime of 2018: Cells at Work!
This is the part where I admit that I haven’t really watched a lot of anime this year.
In fact, I only really got the chance to watch anime again fairly recently.
Anyway, since I have only finished one anime this year I thought it would only be fair to give the Best Anime title to the anime in question.
Cells at Work! follows a Red Blood Cell as she goes about her day-to-day work inside the human body.
Cute, funny and educational (yes, really) Cells at Work! is a joy to watch.
Honourable Mentions: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Zombie Land Saga
Like I said, I haven’t watched a lot of anime this year and I only started watching That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and Zombie Land Saga recently.
From what I have seen so far, I like both shows and I’m looking to watching a few more series before the new year. So if you have any recommendations, please let me know!
Best Movie of 2018: Halloween
Of the few films I was able to see this year, Halloween was my favourite.
I loved everything about this sequel. Throwbacks to previous films, witty jokes, characters you actually care about and some good action scenes.
If you are a fan of the Halloween franchise and still haven’t seen the newest film then you need to as soon as possible, you will not be disappointed. Once again, here is the full version.
Honourable Mention: Incredibles 2
Speaking of sequels, Incredibles 2 was great! Full review here.
My only complaint is that there was not enough Edna Mode. Seriously, can Disney just give her a show or something? I would watch the hell out of it!
What were the highlights of your year? Let me know!
