I don’t know how I feel about this.
Apparently, the J.R.R. Tolkien estate is looking to sell the rights to make a Lord Of The Rings tv series, at the time of writing Amazon Prime and Netflix are in the running.
According to Deadline Hollywood, the price is said to be around $200 – $250 million. Keep in mind that this is just the cost of the rights, this doesn’t even begin to factor in other expenses this potential project would need.
Even then, apparently if someone did buy the rights, it doesn’t include the use of all the characters we have come to know and love.
No official deals have been made, at the time of writing.
Now, it is still early days. For all we know this might not even come to pass. I have seen some pretty extreme reactions to this story and I can’t help but think, this might not even happen, chill.
As for my opinion, well, I hope this doesn’t happen.
I love Lord Of The Rings and as far as I am concerned the Jackson films are the bests adaptations of the books and they are a tough act to follow. After all, look at how The Hobbit films turned out.
That being said, I would not object to a show with a new story Middle Earth. Perhaps one that explores the lore or the aftermath of the original.
Like I said, its too early to start making predictions, I don’t know about you, but I am just going to wait and hope for the best.
This is interesting. I shall keep an eye out. (I love the Hobbit films~ T~T Lol. But I’m aware of the flaws)
