Last night, Disney officially announced the cast for the upcoming adaptation of The Lion King.
So, what do we know not just about the cast, but about this remake in general?
Firstly, to my delight, James Earl Jones will voice Mufasa once again. I’ll be honest, if they went with any other actor I would have had a fit.
Simba will be brought to life by Donald Glover, a good pick if you ask me.
Here was something I wasn’t expecting, Beyoncé will play Nala. The internet lost its mind. While I am not exactly a big Beyoncé fan myself, I am interested in seeing what she brings to the roll.
My favourite part of the reveal was discovering that John Oliver will provide the voice for Zazu. Perfect choice, Disney!
Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen will play Timon and Pumbaa respectively, aka the comic relief duo with one of the catchiest songs in Disney history. So catchy that I have been humming it since I started writing this article.
Scar will be portrayed by Chiwetel Ejiofor.
They announced that Florence Kasumba, Eric André and Keegan-Michael Key will play the three hyena henchmen, but it looks like they changed one of the names.
Azizi and Shenzi have their original names, but Ed seems have been renamed to Kamari. Are they trying to make his name blend in with the others? If not, why did they change it?
Also, If you google Kamari Lion King, you get a fan made OC bio page. No, really. Don’t believe me, look it up.
The Lion King is due to be released on the 19th of July, 2019. Apparently, one of the reasons for the 2019 release is to celebrate the original 25th anniversary.
I for one am looking forward to this remake, how about you?
