NOT SO CHRISTMASSY CHRISTMAS FILMS

Before we begin, I have to apologize for not posting anything for two days. There has been a death in the family and so I have found it hard to motivate myself to work. Again, I’m sorry for the lack of content. On to the article!

We all have those certain movies we watch at this time of year. Classics like The Nightmare before Christmas, it’s a Wonderful life and Miracle on 34th street. However, there are movies out there everyone loves around this time of year that have little to nothing to do with the holiday. So here are the top five non Christmas classics.

5 THE GREAT ESCAPE

Nothing says joy to the world like a film about one of the most horrific wars in history. Despite that, many tune in or pop in the DVD to watch this film at this time of year. Perhaps it’s the music. Still, this is a classic to watch all year round.

4 THE SOUND OF MUSIC

It’s a classic that makes everyone feel good. It has a great family centred story, all about love, understanding and the importance of family. Perfect for this time of year. And Nazis. Can’t forget about the Nazis. Seems to be a trend.

3 ANYTHING PIXAR

While some Pixar movies have one or two Christmas scenes and they do have Christmas specials but never a full movie dedicated to Christmas. That being said, many of Pixar’s films discuss the importance of family, making it a good choice for this holiday.

2 EDWARD SCISSORHANDS

While this is a time to look at all the joy and happiness in the world, it’s important not to go overboard with the sugary sweet films or you might rot your teeth. Edward Scissorhands is a creepy but magical movie, which takes place on Christmas so technically it can count as a Christmas film but it’s on this list anyway. The focus isn’t on the holiday so it qualifies. The focus is where it belongs, on Edward. This film is a classic no matter the time of year.

1 THE PRINCESS BRIDE

The Princess Bride is a comic marvel which doesn’t rely on crude or shocking humour. Good clean but nonetheless hilarious movie the whole family loves to watch, especially this month. If you haven’t already seen this film, shame on you!

These films are perfect to watch in between all the cheesy campy Christmas movies which are in no short supply.
